Kyyle is an earth mage who befriends Finn early at the Mage Guild academy and becomes one of his most steadfast allies. Book 4.1: Ember

After a betrayal by rival champions strands the team, Kyyle uses glass and earth manipulation to build platforms and defensive walls during the ambush and escape, then survives a catastrophic fall into the Abyss with broken legs, requiring protection from Finn and Julia during his recovery. He joins the expedition into the Forge, using earth magic (Dissolve, Stone Coffin) against a mechanical guardian at the entrance, then grows intellectually absorbed by the facility’s ancient technology, restoring a golem attendant and adopting a cover identity as a facility “supervisor” to access secured areas. To open a blast door he channels mana into an inert construct, which awakens as an earth elemental he names Brock. When Jason’s undead army breaches the city, Kyyle provides tactical intelligence on the attack, including reports of an explosion at the Mage Guild, and leads earth mages in terraforming the battlefield to funnel Jason’s undead into Infernal Guard kill zones. He coordinates with Alexion’s forces during the siege, using earth magic to control terrain against Eliza’s forces and the advancing undead. By the end of the battle he is worn down by the extended fighting but keeps his sense of humor, joking that he just wants whichever side wins to let him log out and rest. His relationship with Julia, established earlier in the book as professional and collegial, is shown by the siege’s end as an openly romantic partnership.

At Evelyn’s gala he helps track down Julia when she goes missing and works to keep the group’s security intact amid the escalating chaos, and in a later crisis he provides crowd control and civilian protection under Jason’s direction. He is also referenced elsewhere as leading an elite mage corps under Finn’s command, a role another character, Steven, aspires to join.
As the alliance moves toward direct confrontation with Death and Taxes, Kyyle repeatedly supplies tactical earth magic in combat, using gravity wells and stone terrain to support his team, and takes on an advisory role, offering a theory that Queen’s illusion magic is imbued into a piece of jewelry. His scholarly side comes out during an expedition when the group encounters wild earth elementals: he takes notes and draws on his knowledge of the elementals’ history even as he shifts into combat to defend the group, coordinating well with Julia in the field.
