Evelyn St. Clair is the socialite heir to a wealthy trading family and, in Awaken Online, the shrewd leader of the airship guild Cloud Shipping. Calculating and fiercely independent, she becomes both a business ally and romantic partner to Alexion, weighing profit and power in equal measure. Her arc follows a woman who guards her own agenda even inside her closest alliances, one whose true loyalties and motives prove far harder to pin down than her polished, opportunistic exterior suggests.
Book 4: Dominion
Evelyn St. Clair first appears at a charity event hosted by her family, where she seeks out Alex Lane in a red gown and mask and unsettles him by revealing she has researched his identity beforehand, holding the conversational upper hand throughout. In the game world she operates as Evelyn, leader of the trade guild Cloud Shipping, and meets with Alexion to reject his standard trade proposal; she instead floats recruiting him for the more lucrative business of procuring undead slaves, framing her worldview around the idea that wealth, not strength or devotion, is the real source of power. At a real-world party, a gift from Alex visibly catches her off guard, producing a moment of genuine warmth that cuts against her usual calculated composure; the same period establishes that she maintains an intelligence network tracking the Twilight Throne independent of her alliance with Alexion. When Alexion is later captured and imprisoned, Evelyn personally organizes and leads an airship rescue, commanding air mages and lightning magic to extract him and recover a stolen gate fragment, ending the book as his ally and romantic partner as well as his rescuer.

She also commands airship operations; after losing an airship to Riley’s attack during a rescue of Alexion, she adjusts the fleet’s shield defenses to prevent a repeat, but Riley’s forces outmaneuver her again.

In both settings she presents as a calculating, politically savvy guild leader who dismisses the game’s digital residents as “not real” and treats every conversation as a chance to gather leverage: she probes Finn about his dead wife Rachael to expose his emotional vulnerabilities, uses Eliza as a source of intelligence on the group, and passes what she learns about Julia’s mother to needle Julia during the gala. She orchestrates the resulting chaos from a terrace balcony, watching the fallout with open satisfaction and contempt for the avatars’ attachments to the game.
This version of “Evelyn” is later unmasked as a disguise: a masked figure using adaptive illusion magic and affiliated with the mercenary guild Death and Taxes as a Queen member, exposed once the group works together to strip the facade away. The real Evelyn’s whereabouts are unaccounted for during this period. She resurfaces near the book’s end, stepping off an airship with her own trading fleet, and reveals that the impersonation was her doing — a staged kidnapping using the double as cover while she pursued a long-running deception of Alexion aimed at destroying his family’s business empire. She taunts him with the revelation, declining to confirm or deny stealing a video from Cerillion, before being killed; she is executed shortly after the reveal, dying while pleading for help.

Recruited by Jason on an “enemy of my enemy” basis against their shared rival Cerillion, she agrees to deploy thirty airships to transport travelers to his dungeon operation and negotiates a separate, undisclosed payment arrangement with him. She remains composed even with Security Cady’s blade at her throat, showing disdain for the bone-decorated surroundings but no fear, and confirms she has met the real Arcadia Landrey (Cady-Prime) before. Her practiced composure collapses only when Jason triggers his transformation; her confident mask shatters, her knuckles go white, and she is reduced to asking what is happening, unable to process the scale of his power. Later, she appears at the presentation for Jason and Alex’s dungeon business, arriving precisely on time and partnering the St. Clair family’s telecommunications network and data centers with the operation, her presence and family resources lending it legitimacy.
