Kalisha
Kalisha is a Merchant Guild champion whose talent for mechanical engineering and mana-crystal technology makes her a formidable operator both on and off the battlefield. She builds alliances readily and just as readily turns on them when it serves her interests, treating betrayal and violence as simple business calculations. Her fortunes shift repeatedly through defeat and capture, but her technical skill and pragmatism keep earning her a seat at the table, eventually carrying her into a respected diplomatic role within a changing political order.

- mechanid reconnaissance and modification for battlefield use — Book 4.3
Book 4.2: Flame
Kalisha enters the tournament as a Merchant Guild champion known for advanced mechanical engineering and mana crystal technology, using cordial diplomacy and shared technical knowledge to build rapport with Finn’s team while assessing their capabilities. She recruits Vanessa and forms a working alliance with Sadik, presenting the arrangement as cooperation until the group reaches the Abyss. During the journey she shares detailed historical knowledge of the ancient battlefield and the region’s legends, using her expertise to build credibility as suspicion grows that someone is sabotaging the mission. At the Abyss entrance she and Malik execute a premeditated betrayal, deploying mechanid drones to raise earthen walls and coordinating a multi-front ambush with Malik’s fighters and Vanessa against Finn’s team, describing the attempted killing as “good business” rather than acknowledging its violence.
Kalisha’s team reaches the vault temple ahead of Finn’s group and establishes a defensive network of mechanical traps, intending to let Finn’s team do the dangerous work of opening the vault before seizing the relic for herself. When Finn’s group arrives she escalates from defense to direct assault, deploying a mechanical combat suit operated by Sadik, but the attack fails and her forces are defeated. Reading that Finn’s team is willing to kill rather than negotiate, she surrenders and is taken prisoner alongside Malik, stripped of her equipment and held under guard. As prisoners, she and Malik witness the temple’s destruction and Julia’s transformation into the Khamsin during the group’s escape from the Abyss. Once free of the dungeon she is left pale and shaken, loudly criticizing the dangerous method used to get them out, before being abandoned bound in the sand near Lahab; she vows to report the incident to the Merchant Guild.
Status: Merchant Guild champion competing in the tournament, building alliances with Finn’s group, Vanessa, and Sadik → Defeated, stripped of equipment, and abandoned bound in the desert near Lahab after being held prisoner through the Abyss escape
Finn: Builds a strategic alliance with Finn’s team while gathering intelligence, then betrays and ambushes them at the Abyss entrance, becoming their prisoner after a failed assault on the vault temple.
Malik: Partners with Malik’s fighters to orchestrate the betrayal at the Abyss entrance and shares captivity with him after their defeat at the vault temple.
Vanessa: Recruits Vanessa into her alliance for intelligence-gathering purposes and coordinates with her through the betrayal and vault assault.
Sadik: Works with Sadik as part of her team, directing his deployment of a mechanical combat suit during the final assault on Finn’s group.

Book 4.3: Inferno
Kalisha, a merchant guild representative previously allied with Finn, first appears as a bound captive alongside Malik in khamsin territory, using flirtation and humor to mask her fear while trying to reestablish contact with Finn. Once freed, she negotiates an alliance between the guilds and the khamsin, revealing intelligence gathered through mechanid and drone espionage on Bilel’s activities and workshop location; she credits Finn with saving her life during a prior expedition while maintaining a tense rivalry with Aerys rooted in older grievances. As war preparations continue, she coordinates merchant logistics and evacuation, including organizing a hound-capture mission, while resisting expectations that merchants fight directly.
After undergoing the Forging, Kalisha bonds with a mechanical spider construct and expands her mechanid network, using it for battlefield reconnaissance during the hurricane assault on Lahab and advising Finn to bond the army’s remaining unaffiliated mages and merchants. During planning for the strike team’s infiltration of the palace, she agrees to serve as a decoy, modifying her mechanids to stage an assault on the palace wall and draw Bilel’s attention away from the infiltrators despite her fear. After the siege, she leverages her contributions to secure a formal position as a merchant guild emissary and pursue manufacturing opportunities in the new order, ending the book on good terms with Finn, Aerys, Malik, and Brutus.
Status: Captive ally negotiating with her khamsin captors alongside Malik → Merchant Guild emissary in the new political order following the siege
Finn: Moves from a captive appealing to a past ally to a trusted specialist who negotiates an alliance, executes a decoy mission for him, and secures a business arrangement with him afterward.
Aerys: Starts in mutual hostility rooted in historical grievances and ends the book on friendly terms after cooperating through the siege.
Malik: Maintains a professional partnership with him through the alliance negotiations, war preparations, and the postwar emissary arrangement.
