Revived and permanently magic-bonded (‘Forged’) to Kyyle, with enhanced abilities
Brock is an ancient earth elemental serving as a service-bound attendant construct at a hidden facility, initially defined by strict protocol until an act of kindness gives him a name and, gradually, a personality of his own. He joins a group’s expedition as a loyal guide, proving his devotion through repeated self-sacrifice on their behalf. His story becomes one of transformation, as duty-bound obedience grows into genuine attachment, deepening into a permanent magical bond that reshapes what he is and what he can do.

Book 4.3: Inferno
Brock is an ancient earth elemental serving as an attendant construct at the Forge facility, assigned to guide and assist visitors under strict service protocols. When Finn, Julia, Kyyle, and Daniel arrive, Brock accompanies them, providing facility knowledge and technical analysis, including the revelation that facility staff disabled the power and sealed the blast door themselves before being transformed into hybrid creatures. Kyyle gives him the name Brock and teaches him social gestures like the high-five; Brock responds by developing an individual personality and growing personal loyalty to Kyyle, whom he treats as a supervisor and mana source. Brock physically intervenes to save Kyyle from a mech attack and later uses his strength to force open a blast door so the team can breach the facility. During the breach he becomes trapped; recognizing the team’s need to move forward, he orders them to seal the blast door and proceed without him, accepting his own destruction to buy them time.
Brock is later revived with expanded supervisor-level access to the facility’s systems. Now displaying a more developed personality, he explains elemental philosophy to the team, describing bonding to a worthy mage as an elemental’s highest duty. He uses a supervisor token to activate the ancient Forge chamber’s systems, enduring damage to his stone body from the chamber’s heat, before Kyyle offers to bond with him; Brock accepts the pairing as an honor. The bond gives him enhanced abilities, including flight, and he begins protecting Kyyle directly, at one point scooping him up to shield him during the team’s escape from the facility. As the team crosses into tunnels beneath Lahab and later joins the coalition’s siege operations, Brock adapts to tight spaces, stands watch over Kyyle during planning and army movements, assists with barrier construction and magical coordination, and rescues Julia from drowning when a tunnel collapses, using his elemental resistance to water and lack of need for air to save her life.
Status: Forge attendant construct, service-bound and protocol-compliant → Revived and permanently magic-bonded (‘Forged’) to Kyyle, with enhanced abilities
Kyyle: Brock goes from an assigned attendant guiding Kyyle to his permanently bonded (‘Forged’) elemental partner after being revived from his sacrifice at the blast door.
Julia: Brock rescues Julia from drowning during a tunnel collapse, using his elemental nature to save her without needing air himself.
Key quote: “I would be honored. It is an elemental’s greatest duty to serve a worthy mage, and I believe we will make a suitable pairing.”
