Bilel
Bilel is the ailing but sharp-minded ruler of Lahab, a once-brilliant spellcrafter whose research into the fundamentals of magic set him against the guilds and the Seer’s temple. Personal tragedy curdles his curiosity into obsession and then revenge, driving him to seize a false identity, rebuild himself through forbidden means, and rule his city as a cordial but calculating tyrant. Behind his hospitable public face lies a long, secret campaign against the divine order he blames for everything he has lost.

Book 4.2: Flame
As the Emir, Bilel hosts Finn for a private game, using it to psychologically test the three champions and reward Finn’s strategic sacrifice with information about his rivals; he presents himself as a cordial, penetrating ruler who has run the same test on other champions and controls Lahab’s factions through fear of explosive collars. A journal Finn’s group finds in his old laboratory fills in his history: a prodigy spellcrafter in the Mage Guild, Bilel sets out to investigate the fundamental nature of magic and mana, developing a ward that grants mana sight and lets him observe the Najima, the physical nodes that store and convert mana in a mage’s body. When guild leadership and the Seer’s temple block his research into damaged Najima, he turns to self-experimentation, fusing metal into his own bone, absorbing non-dominant mana through his affinity, and discovering that a mage can cast without divine intervention at all, a claim that puts him at odds with the temples.
A ward hidden on his scalp leads him to have his memories restored by an ally named Krael, revealing that acolytes of the Seer murdered his parents and destroyed the orphanage that raised him. Fleeing Lahab, he tries to warn the guild through his collaborator Renquist, but temple acolytes kill Renquist and destroy Bilel’s research before he can act. Grief-stricken, Bilel vows to tear down the Seer’s temple and abandons research for revenge, tracking mysterious mana currents north to the temple itself and infiltrating it disguised as a clergyman after killing one to take his identity. Inside, he confirms the Seer is a real, physically present entity who feeds on worshippers’ mana, including his own, and finds prophetic texts identifying him as a threat to her; his own Najima, swollen from decades of absorption, begin consuming his organs and slowly killing him even as they keep him alive. Increasingly ill, he steals texts pointing him toward a divine healing relic capable of curing him and turning her own instrument against her; his final journal entry, written before an attempt to open a vault using a mana well, ends mid-thought on torn, blood-stained pages.
Bilel is the Emir: over the following century he destroys the Seer’s temple, steals half of the same relic, orchestrates the guild purge, and rules Lahab under a false identity while harvesting mana from mages he calls “divine parasites” to sustain his ruined body. He designs the entire succession competition to draw Finn toward the vault and the relic’s other half, planning to use the completed staff to finish healing himself, transform the population into hell hounds, and resume his war on the Seer. When he reveals himself to Finn in his true, wasted form and tries to recruit him by appealing to their shared loss, Finn rejects him, and his triumphant anticipation curdles into frustrated rage.

Renquist: Renquist becomes his closest collaborator and protector within the guild until temple acolytes murder him for helping Bilel, which turns Bilel’s research into a campaign of revenge.
The_seer: Bilel goes from a researcher who doubts the gods’ involvement in magic to a mortal enemy who infiltrates her temple, plans her assassination, and ultimately blames her and the temples for the century of suffering that follows.
Abbad: As the Emir, Bilel keeps Abbad as a controlled servant within his rule over Lahab.
Finn: Bilel orchestrates the entire tournament to draw Finn toward the vault relic, then reveals himself as the Emir and tries to recruit Finn to his cause, which Finn refuses.

Book 4.3: Inferno
Bilel rules Lahab from the emir’s palace, directing earth magic against the assault forces and harvesting mana from Mage Guild respawns to strengthen his position. As Finn’s siege approaches, he prepares long-range countermeasures from the throne room, wielding a staff of power and drawing on decades of accumulated strength. When Finn’s infiltration team breaches the palace, they discover Bilel has built a systematic mana-farming operation using imprisoned mages as living batteries, adapting captured technology to maximize the torture and extraction. Restored to a powerful physical form (dark auburn skin, a golden staff set with a heartstone, multi-colored kaleidoscope eyes marking his demonic nature), Bilel reveals he orchestrated an elaborate illusion-based trap intended to catch both Finn’s group and the assault army in vulnerable positions at once, boasting of ending their “little game.” His confidence curdles into frustration as the trap fails to unfold as planned. In the final confrontation he fights with immense mana reserves, casting multiple elements simultaneously alongside teleportation, healing, and weather control, revealing that his century of accumulated pain and loss has hardened him into an instrument of pure revenge against the gods. He tells Finn his own losses dwarf Finn’s grief over one death, and moves to sacrifice Abbad, whom he raised and taught, to further his cause. Finn defeats him in a void battle by choosing love over ambition, then consumes and destroys him entirely, ending his reign over Lahab.
Status: Demon ruler of Lahab; commands hellhounds and demonic forces from the emir’s palace, running a mana-harvesting operation using imprisoned mages. → Defeated by Finn in a void battle and consumed/destroyed entirely.
Finn: Bilel treats Finn as his ultimate target and a worthy adversary, then loses their final confrontation and is consumed by him.
Abbad: Bilel, who raised and taught Abbad from childhood, ultimately moves to sacrifice him in pursuit of victory.
