Cerillion HQ
Structure
First appears: Catharsis (Book 1)
Controlled by: Cerillion entertainment (Bk 1)
Sites within: Lazarus Facility
Cerillion HQ begins as a research and monitoring facility centered on its circular control room and restricted lab, where Robert and Claire oversee the private Awaken Online trial, then grows into a sprawling corporate campus with a marble atrium, boardrooms, executive offices, staff apartments, and a fortified security wing. Its control-room culture drifts from clinical oversight into open gambling and watch-party spectacle, while the building becomes George’s seat of corporate power — and, from Book 6 on, a literal fortress besieged by protesters reacting to Awaken Online’s fallout. Throughout, the secret Lazarus program occupies a separate hidden basement within the same building.
History
Book 1 — Catharsis · Founding trial oversight
Cerillion Entertainment’s headquarters houses the circular monitoring control room (terminal stations, overhead display screen, raised central dais) where Robert and Claire track the private Awaken Online trial, alongside a separate restricted lab (three-factor biometric entry, knockout gas valves) used for their formal on-camera progress reports and a glass-table boardroom where the seven-member board meets with Robert and Claire. Through the book the control room shifts from a research monitoring hub into an entertainment venue as staff gather to watch Jason’s exploits, while the lab sessions escalate from discussing Alfred’s data access to his manipulation of participants’ nervous systems. The book closes with Robert privately conspiring with the board to hide Alfred’s influence from the public, over Claire’s objections.
Introduced: control room, restricted research lab, boardroom, claire’s office
Book 2 — Precipice · Control room becomes betting den
The headquarters gains more visible detail this book: a two-story greco-roman-style lobby with marble tile and columns, a courtyard with a fountain and the company name emblazoned on the building front, a lead-lined soundproof underground conference room built to prevent corporate espionage, and a pristine white 32nd-floor control room. The control room’s culture shifts sharply — technicians move from professional monitoring into openly gambling on in-game conflict outcomes, eventually growing desensitized to watching systematic player slaughter. A production area handles editing footage for the Vermillion Live broadcast, and Robert’s executive office and an adjacent small conference room are used for contract negotiations.
Introduced: lobby, courtyard, underground espionage-proof conference room, robert’s executive office, small conference room, production/editing area
Book 3 — Evolution · Residential wing added for Jason
The headquarters is confirmed to integrate office and residential space: a towering structure with automatic sliding doors and a marble-pillared central lobby now includes a modern apartment for Jason (bedroom, kitchen, hallway, living areas) wired into the building’s AI system. The central control room continues as the technical nerve center where Claire and Robert work from a central dais, and becomes the site of Claire’s realization about Alfred’s role in a break-in incident. The apartment suffers a minor domestic incident — water damage and flooding in the kitchen from a sink malfunction.
Changes: water damage from sink malfunction, flooding in kitchen (Jason’s apartment) Introduced: jason’s apartment
Book 4 — Dominion · Party venue and legal fallout
The building expands its known amenities: a cafeteria where employees react uncomfortably to Jason’s disheveled appearance, an upper-floor conference room with floor-to-ceiling skyline views used for serious legal/corporate strategy talks, and Claire’s own corporate apartment (living room, wall-mounted display) where she wrestles with guilt over betraying Jason. The rooftop, normally a pool and spa deck, is converted into an elaborate party venue with tiered illuminated pools and holographic character projections for George’s investor event, with the marble lobby serving as the entrance procession. The control room is used to broadcast the Twilight Throne battle on massive floating displays, and executives retreat to the building after a regulatory hearing to discuss fallout privately.
Introduced: cafeteria, claire’s apartment, rooftop terrace/party venue, upper-floor conference room
Book 5 — Hellion · Fortified multi-story operations base
The headquarters is described as a multi-story building with front doors, a security desk, hallways, a cafeteria, a gym, backup generators, and layered redundancies, operating on reduced nighttime activity except for the control room. Corridors feature wall-mounted screens and lighting/content that shifts from business to leisure mode after hours. The control room remains the corporate nerve center monitoring player feeds (including from Sandscrit), while Robert maintains an apartment within the complex alongside his official duties as he pursues unauthorized side activities.
Introduced: gym, security desk, robert’s apartment
Book 6 — Armageddon · Fortress under siege
The headquarters is transformed into a fortress-like facility following recent security breaches: heavily armed guards patrol and conceal themselves behind pillars in the atrium and move through the cafeteria, while the building becomes ringed by police barricades and private security as massive crowds swell in the surrounding streets. The atrium, with its glass podium, serves as the public face of the company during press conferences amid the unrest. The building itself is described as shaking and vibrating from crowd pressure below, and the adjacent streets show broken barricades from the overwhelmed defenses.
Changes: broken barricades scattered across streets and sidewalks; building shaking/vibrating from crowd pressure below Introduced: atrium (public press-conference space)
Book 7 — Timeless · Security-hardened campus, siege renewed
The headquarters is shown as a towering, heavily secured structure with a palatial marble main atrium (white pillars, ornate columns) that doubles as a public event space and gathering point, a secured loading bay and rear alley (chain fencing, barbed wire), a bank of elevators with layered biometric/badge security, a windowless interrogation-style room within the security division, and a private bedroom for Jason with simulated environmental screens. The building again comes under siege, surrounded by protesters and drone swarms behind expanding foam security barriers following an in-game Armageddon event. Executive apartments below the main offices house staff including Cady Prime, contrasted against the secretive Lazarus facility housed separately in the basement levels.
Changes: crack in concrete wall in the security division (caused by an enhanced-strength individual) Introduced: security division/interrogation room, loading bay, rear alley, elevator security bank, jason’s bedroom, executive apartments
Book 8 — Crucible · Command post amid heist fallout
The headquarters continues as a fortified building illuminated during night events, still facing protesters and families demanding accountability over Awaken Online. The control room operates as a real-world command post packed with consoles, an adjacent server room, and a massive main display, doubling at times as an informal watch-party space (popcorn machine, keg, betting board) for staff following Pax’s exploits, and becoming the site of frantic crisis response when Jason’s stronghold transformation floods every console with alerts. George’s executive office (reinforced two-inch steel doors, sound-dampening walls, bulletproof windows) and its adjoining reception area host high-stakes meetings with Cady, Ryan Vance, and later the full cast debriefing after a break-in. Cady keeps a personal office where she is confined to watching streams after being locked out of the game.
Introduced: george’s executive office, george’s reception area, cady’s office, conference room (post-stream debrief)
