Killed by Alexion after his execution attempt fails
Strouse is the Regent of Grey Keep, a seasoned political and military leader who rules the city through absolute authority and unflinching force. He wields punishment and public spectacle as tools of control, quick to strip rank and standing from those he judges to have failed and to treat dissent as an existential threat to the city’s stability. His confrontation with Alex Lane’s rising influence and claims of divine power puts his rule to its sharpest test.
Book 2: Precipice
Strouse is the Regent of Grey Keep, holding absolute political and military authority over the city. He first appears delivering harsh punishment to Alex Lane for the failed siege of Twilight Throne, stripping him of rank, title, and possessions as a public warning against incompetent leadership. Later, after Alex takes up preaching the Lady of Light’s message and stirs unrest in Grey Keep, Strouse has him arrested and put on public trial, confronting him personally before condemning him to execution. At the execution, Strouse frames the killing as necessary to protect the city, using rhetoric that casts Alex as a mutinous threat, and dismisses Alex’s claims of divine power as the tricks of a charlatan. When Alex’s power proves real and the execution fails, Strouse’s confidence turns to shock and desperation, and he is killed, ending his rule over Grey Keep.
