Order leader in a negotiated, temporary alliance with Finn
Eldawin is an elderly Khamsin clan elder and leader of the Order, a faction deeply distrustful of gods and outside powers. He first regards Finn as a potential threat to his people, weighing history and old mistakes as he decides whether an alliance is worth the risk. Cautious rather than hostile by nature, Eldawin ultimately negotiates rather than fights, striking a pragmatic truce that protects Khamsin interests while keeping the Order’s suspicion of divine influence firmly intact.
Book 4.3: Inferno
Eldawin first appears as a skeptical Khamsin elder who opposes Aerys’s willingness to ally with outside powers, including gods and guilds. He evaluates Finn as a potential danger to the Khamsin, speaking in historical metaphors about the risks of repeating past mistakes, and privately considers eliminating Finn if the alliance proves too dangerous. Later, as leader of the Order, the Khamsin faction most hostile to divine influence, Eldawin meets Finn again to negotiate a truce. He agrees to redirect the Order’s hostility away from Finn and toward Jason and Alexion instead, protecting Khamsin interests while still pursuing the Order’s anti-divine goals. Once satisfied with the terms, he commits to the agreement without further hedging.

Finn: Moves from suspicion and considering Finn’s elimination to negotiating a temporary alliance and ceasefire with him.
Jason: By the terms of his agreement with Finn, Eldawin redirects the Order’s hostility toward Jason.
Key quote: “The wind always passes through the rock the same way, carving familiar ripples and channels. And now I fear we are making the same mistakes again - embracing one evil to conquer another.”
