Alderas is Haven’s Elder Shifter, a ruling council member and Alpha whose authority rests on long-held guilt as much as tradition. He is the father of Silver, the community’s pack leader, and his relationship with her is strained by a past decision that cost Haven dearly. Presiding over disputes with a stubborn insistence on due process, he nonetheless proves willing to override his daughter’s judgment when he believes Haven’s survival is at stake, and his composure frays as crisis after crisis tests both his leadership and his family bonds.

Book 4.5: Unity

When Frank is captured and brought before the council on suspicion of being a cultist, Alderas challenges his daughter’s rush to judgment, asking whether she would condemn a man before hearing his side of the story, and the council ultimately spares Frank and orders him trained rather than executed. After the demon Palo’s death strips Haven of its magical defenses and the Knights of the New Republic guild lay siege to the valley, Alderas overrules Silver’s proposal to retreat, invoking his authority as Alpha to declare that Haven will fight rather than flee, and assigns Silver to guard the children rather than join the defense; his anger is bound up with guilt over having let a cultist Master into Haven, a decision that led to his wife’s death and cost him his daughter’s trust. Following the battle, injured by poison and searching for someone to blame for Haven’s devastation, Alderas accuses Silver and Frank of having struck a secret bargain with the invading players and casts Silver’s transformation as corruption rather than survival; his accusations falter and his authority gives way to confusion when the Dragon of Life’s message overturns his prepared account of events.
