Brodie is a palm-sized faerie working as a cheerful, endlessly chatty transport operator within a magical entertainment venue, ferrying travelers around with wind magic and a relentless customer-service manner. When the world around him turns out to have changed for the worse, his sunny obliviousness gives way to confusion and grief over what he has lost. Taken in as an unusual, still talkative companion by the group he helps rescue, he brings unexpected warmth and comic relief to their otherwise grim circumstances.

Book 6: Armageddon

Brodie is a palm-sized faerie employed by the Very Fast Faerie (VFF), a magical transportation service operating within the Mile-High Club. When Jason and Alexion are trapped in the tornado at the club’s center, Brodie rescues them using amber-colored mana and wind magic, ferrying them out with protective energy domes and cushioning. As he leads them through the ruined, abandoned club, his cheerful customer-service manner curdles into confusion and grief when he realizes his coworkers are missing and the club he remembers as thriving has been destroyed. Jason cages him in a bone container to keep him from alerting the club’s remaining threats, promising to help him find his missing coworkers; Brodie accepts the captivity without apparent hostility, still greeting Jason and Alexion as if they were hospitality guests rather than captors. He remains talkative and persistent even after being shut inside Jason’s bag for noise control during later travel, continuing to try to communicate through the muffled confinement; Jason feels guilty about suppressing him.
